The Pittsburgh Steelers QB will undergo surgery on Monday to repair damage caused by a broken nose in Sunday's win against the Baltimore Ravens.
Defensive tackle Haloti Ngata got his hand through Roethlisberger’s facemask and was able to rearrange the quarterback’s beak with a paw to the face. Check out the damage it did in these pictures of Ben Roethlisberger’s broken nose. Watch the Ben Roethlisberger Broken Nose Picture at right side.

Steelers Ravens Prediction

Watch the Steelers Ravens prediction. Who will win the match between Steelers Ravens in NFL.The NFL focused this year on putting more divisional games late in the season to spice things up and potentially prevent situations like we saw with the Indianapolis Colts last year where they can rest their starters in Week 16 and 17. That' resulted in lots of late-season division games and, for the fans, likely more exciting finishes.

With four games to play, we're starting to see four of these teams separate themselves from everyone else. The Patriots, Jets, Steelers and Ravens seem a step above everyone else. It's looking like we'll see both wildcards come out of those divisions.

Here's a look and a prediction on the AFC playoff picture:

AFC East: The Pariots and Jets are both at 9-2 and they'll both more than likely make the playoffs -- one as the division winner and one as the wildcard. They currently hold the two best records in the NFL (outside of Atlanta) so there's no reason to think they both won't get it. The Dolphins are two games behind the Ravens for the wildcard.

Prediction: Patriots win division, Jets are a wildcard

AFC North: The Steelers and Ravens met on Sunday Night Football in a game that saw Pittsburgh win giving them a 9-3 record over the 8-4 Ravens. The Steelers are now favored to win the division and the Ravens have a two-game lead over all the wildcards. Looking at the rest of the wildcard-possible teams, it's hard to envision a scenario that doesn't have both the Steelers and Ravens in the playoffs.

Prediction: Steelers win division, Ravens are a wildcard

AFC South: Surprisingly, this is still very much a contest and, even more shockingly, the Colts may not be favored to win. The Jaguars stand at 7-5, a full game ahead of the Colts at 6-6. There likely won't be a wildcard from the South so one of these teams will have to win this division. The Colts probably need to run the table -- and that includes a Dec. 19 matchup with the Jaguars.

Prediction: Colts win the division, no wildcards

AFC West: Seven of the eight divisions in the NFL have a team within at least one game of the division lead. The one division that doesn't is the AFC West and the KC Chiefs, who now hold a two-game lead over everyone in the division. Both the Chargers and Raiders play the Chiefs in the final four games so they'll need to win those games and get some help if they're thinking playoffs.

Prediction: Chiefs win the division, no wildcards

Cyber Monday Deals

Maryland — For one day at least, you could almost imagine the recession never happened. Millions of the nation’s shoppers braved rain and cold to crowd stores while others grabbed online bargains on what could be the busiest Black Friday ever.

Early signs pointed to bigger crowds at many stores including Best Buy, Sears, Macy’s and Toys R Us, some of which had earlier openings than past years or even round-the-clock hours. Minnesota’s Mall of America and mall operators Taubman Centers Inc. and Macerich Co. also reported more customers than last year.

But the most encouraging sign for retailing and for the economy was what Americans were throwing in their carts. Shoppers still clutched lists and the buying frenzy was focused on the deals on TVs and toys, but many were treating themselves while they bought gifts for others, adding items like boots, sumptuous sweaters, jewelry and even dresses for special occasions.

Elayne Breton and her daughter Michelle got to Maryland’s Mall in Columbia around 7 a.m. A few hours later, Michelle had picked out several presents for herself, including a pair of UGG boots, perfume and an iPod Touch. At Nordstrom, she scored a long-sleeved purple shirt that her mother let her wear out of the store.

“Last year we were careful,” said Elayne, whose husband’s beer distribution business has started to pick up again. “This year we’ll do more.”

The strong Black Friday builds on retailers’ momentum after a solid start to November. Shoppers who can afford it are buying more nonessentials, like jewelry and luxury goods.

“Last year, consumers were extremely into the basics, the socks, the pillows,” said Keith Jelinek, director of the global retail practice at consulting firm AlixPartners. “This year, they’re hungry to dress up their wardrobes, their homes. Shoppers were buying items with a little more pizazz, trendier sweaters, sheets in higher thread counts.”

He cautioned that they’re not looking to replace everything — just looking for a few special items. “They’re still very value-conscious,” he added.

Wizard Of OZ Hanging

Google's special logo for today reminds us that it's the 71st anniversary of the release of The Wizard of Oz, which, though we now think of it as a classic film, wasn't all that highly regarded until it became a TV staple during the late 1950s.

An urban legend of more recent origin (possibly coinciding with the 50th anniversary video release in 1989) holds that unbeknownst to the director, cast, and crew, one of the actors who played a munchkin in the film committed suicide while the camera was rolling and for some reason the shot was never edited out. It can still be seen to this day (including in YouTube clips, some of which contain helpful blow-ups).

Here's an example of the factoid as posted on the Internet in 1993:

A co-worker told me today that there is a scene in the Wizard of Oz where you can see one of the midgets hanging from a rope in the background. She said set conditions were so bad, and all the midgets were treated really badly, and one decided to hang himself on a prop tree.
Amazingly, it's still in circulation despite having been debunked ad infinitum (by munchkin confidante Paula Poundstone, among others). As many have pointed out (and as can be clearly enough seen even in the fuzzy video clips), the dimly-lit figure moving around in the background of the scene is actually one of the live exotic birds distributed around the set for visual interest.

Sweet Potato Pie Recipe

The Thanksgiving table often includes quite a few basics. The sweet potato casserole vs. sweet potato pie recipe debate is one that has been wide-ranging. The secret to tasty sweet potato recipes is to get the right tuber mixed with the right supporting cast.
The basics of sweet potato recipes
A sweet potato recipe will sometimes use the term “yam” interchangeably. In fact, Grandma’s recipe book probably includes a recipe for “Thanksgiving yams.” A yam, however, is not the same as a sweet potato. Sweet potatoes are the traditional southern tuber used in Thanksgiving recipes. Yams are becoming more available in the United States, but be sure you intend to use them if that is what you buy. A yam is actually an African vegetable that looks, tastes and cooks differently than a sweet potato.
Sweet potato casserole recipe
A classic sweet potato casserole recipe usually mashes the sweet potatoes up with butter and brown sugar, then tops them with marshmallows. This recipe results in a cloyingly sweet dish that is more suited for dessert than a side dish. Instead, try steaming 1 pound peeled sweet potatoes, then mashing them together with just 1/4 cup brown sugar, 1/4 cup butter, 1 teaspoon ginger, 1 teaspoon kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper. If you feel like the marshmallow crust is an absolute necessity, try sprinkling the marshmallows with a little kosher salt before you put it in a 300 degree oven for 20 minutes.
Sweet potato pie recipe
Unlike sweet potato casserole, sweet potato pie recipes are actually intended for dessert. By adding eggs to a sweet potato pie recipe, you give it the structural integrity it needs to be a true pie. Blend 1 1/2 pounds steamed, mashed sweet potatoes with 1 1/4 cups sour cream. Add 1/2 cup dark brown sugar, 1 teaspoon each of cinnamon and nutmeg and 5 egg yolks. Pour it into a 9-inch frozen pie shell, and top with 1 cup toasted pecans. Bake at 350 for about 1 hour, and you’ve got a classic sweet potato pie.

turkey cooking times per pound

time, place bird in leakproof containers and submerge in cold tap water. Change water every 30 minutes to keep the cold and wait melting occurs at a rate of 30 minutes per pound. Depending on the birds and the size of the oven, defrost the turkey in the microwave is another option. If thawed in the microwave, the turkey should be cooked immediately after thawing.
• Most food safety experts recommend NOT stuffing a turkey.
• When cooking turkey, the oven temperature must be below 325 ° F. To determine the approximate cooking time, consult the instructions that come with the turkey or a cookbook. (Keep in mind that the stuffed turkeys should be cooked longer.) Turkey is “doing” when it reaches 165 ° F. For best quality, cook the white meat to 170 ° F and dark meat to 180 ° F. Use a food thermometer to check internal temperature of the turkey in three locations: the deepest part of thigh, the wing and the thickest part of the breast.
• If you stuff the turkey, check the temperature of the stuffing to make sure it also has reached at least 165 ° F. Do not assume that the stuffing reaches 165 ° F if the turkey is.
• If the turkey is done early or your guests arrive late, do not carve the turkey in advance. Try to keep the whole turkey above 140 ° C. (The “danger zone” in which rapidly growing pathogens is 40 ° F-140 ° F) for a short wait while the turkey wrap with foil high strength, and then cover with a towel. For further waiting, preheat the oven to 200 degrees F and put the whole bird back into the furnace to keep warm without burning it. To keep moisture from birds, put a pan of water in the bottom of the oven. (This is also a good technique to keep the carved meat and hot.)
Carving the turkey
• Before class, wait 15-20 minutes to allow juices to absorb cooked turkey and get maximum humidity. Allow to cool slightly will also make easier the process of carving.
Preparation of the sides
• If you are making your own cranberry sauce, start by looking at the berries and discard those that are wrinkled or have defects. (You can use the white.) By the way, fresh blueberries are kept in the refrigerator for about two weeks. If you buy more time than that, it is frozen. Do not thaw before cooking.
• Be sure to wash all fruits and vegetables (including her sweet potato and pumpkin for a pie) just before serving or cooking them. Rinse with cold water. Even if the outside of a fruit or vegetable is not going to be eaten, yet to be washed to remove dirt and other contaminants that could reach the interior of the products.
Put away perishable leftovers

Firebreather

For nearly three decades, Peter Chung has been a name in 2D animation, with such titles as “C.O.P.S.” and MTV’s “Aeon Flux” series. Now, he’s joining the 3D ranks, directing Cartoon Network’s first CGI movie, “Firebreather,” which premieres Wednesday at 7 p.m. ET/PT. “Firebreather,” based on the comic book series by Phil Hester and Andy Kuhn, is the story of a teenager named Duncan whose mother is human and whose father is Belloc, a 120-foot fire-breathing monster king. Hero Complex writer Noelene Clark caught up with Chung for Five Questions.
PC: It’s funny, because it’s where I started. A lot of people know me for my work on “Aeon Flux” and think of my work as being targeted for adults, but I started doing stuff for a younger audience. So for me, it’s not strange for me to be doing something like this at all. In this specific instance, I would say, it’s very satisfying now to sit with an audience and watch the movie and just have them respond very spontaneously and emotionally. And thinking a lot about how to do that, because for a long time, I was really trying to engage the audience on a cerebral level with “Aeon Flux” and with “The Animatrix” and some of the other things like “Tomb Raider,” and be a little more ironic or a little bit more self-referential, whereas this, I think, is just more of a classically told story. … [In "Aeon Flux"] I’d self-imposed all of these restrictions: no family, no personal ties, all the stuff which, to me, makes telling an emotional story a whole lot easier. I didn’t want those easy methods in the case of “Aeon Flux.” In the case of “Firebreather,” I mean the story, [relationships are] so intrinsic to the character, that it was kind of liberating to be able to make use of all of that. … When I was doing “Aeon Flux,” it was like I had this huge handicap that I’d imposed on myself. It’s like you’re training, and you’re running races with a pack of weights on your back, then suddenly you’re able to take them off, and you can run wild, and that’s a little what it felt like working on “Firebreather.”

This is not your mother's stuffing. Unless, of course, your mother was from the Southwest and had a taste for spicy chiles and savory chorizo. Those of us who weren't lucky enough to grow up where bland is banned, now get a second chance, with Kitchen Daily contributor Alexis Touchet's Southwest Poblano and Chorizo Cornbread Stuffing. It may turn your head toward the spicy school of stuffing, and have you waving good-bye to the classic bread-and-sage combo.

How Long to Cook A Turkey

The Van Hoof family has been helping people serve tasty Thanksgiving dinners for 56 years now, by breeding and growing broad-breasted white turkeys.

Bob’s Turkey Farm, at 181 Old Common Road, was started in 1954 by Robert Van Hoof, and is definitely a family affair that includes his children: daughter Susan Miner runs the retail operation and does the bookkeeping while son Richard Van Hoof runs the breeding and raising of the turkeys. Another daughter, MaryBeth Blanchflower, runs the kitchen.

While the type of turkeys they offer have remained the same, the business has grown and evolved.

“Families aren’t as big they used to be,” said Susan Miner, who runs the retail portion of the business, and is a daughter of founder Robert Van Hoof. “Families are smaller and more than ever this year we’ve had people sizing down. A lot of people said it’s just going to be the four of us this year.”

While Thanksgiving is their biggest selling period, Christmas and Easter are also high selling times, Miner said.

With a year-round business they’ve have developed a wide variety of products, from their turkey pies to turkey lasagna to turkey sausage.

“Our soup has a tons of meat in it, it’s not like canned chicken noodle soup where you have to go looking for the meat,” said Robert Van Hoof, who still works at the farm. The soup as well as the breaded cutlets and turkey sausage were also customer requests that were added to the menu.

Over the last 15 years, customers have also shown a lot more interest in pre-made items that they can put in the oven, like the lasagna or the pies.

“I also think over that time that people have wanted a lot more healthy types of food,” Miner said, which leads them to use turkey because it has less fat. “People also have less time to cook.”

The business has grown in other ways as well. In 1954, Van Hoof started with 125 turkeys, and these days there are 15,000 turkeys between the Lancaster farm and the Ashburnham farm. The majority of the turkeys are raised in Lancaster, and about 3,000 breeders are kept in Ashburnham so there will always be healthy stock.

Turkeys can get several types of respiratory diseases, and if that happens it spreads and there is no real cure.

When asked what leads to a good turkey, Van Hoof didn’t hesitate for a second. “A good, clean baby turkey,” he said. “Cleanliness is important to keeping them healthy.”

AUSTIN, Texas — The heavy-handed style that made Tom DeLay one of the nation's most powerful and feared members of Congress also proved to be his downfall Wednesday when a jury determined he went too far in trying to influence elections, convicting the former House majority leader on two felonies that could send him to prison for decades.

Jurors deliberated for 19 hours before returning guilty verdicts on charges of money laundering and conspiracy to commit money laundering in a scheme to illegally funnel corporate money to Texas candidates in 2002. He faces up to life in prison on the money laundering charge, although prosecutors haven't yet recommended a sentence.

After the verdicts were read, DeLay hugged his daughter, Danielle, and his wife, Christine. DeLay whispered into his daughter's ear that he couldn't get a fair trial in Austin. DeLay had unsuccessfully tried to get the trial moved out of Austin, the most liberal city in one of the most Republican states

DeLay's lead attorney, Dick DeGuerin, said they planned to appeal the verdict.

"This is an abuse of power. It's a miscarriage of justice, and I still maintain that I am innocent. The criminalization of politics undermines our very system and I'm very disappointed in the outcome," DeLay told reporters outside the courtroom.

He remains free on bond, and several witnesses were expected to be called during the punishment phase of his trial, tentatively scheduled to begin on Dec. 20.

Prosecutors said DeLay, who once held the No. 2 job in the House of Representatives and whose tough tactics earned him the nickname "the Hammer," used his political action committee to illegally channel $190,000 in corporate donations into 2002 Texas legislative races through a money swap.

DeLay and his attorneys maintained the former Houston-area congressman did nothing wrong as no corporate funds went to Texas candidates and the money swap was legal.

The verdict came after a three-week trial in which prosecutors presented more than 30 witnesses and volumes of e-mails and other documents. DeLay's attorneys presented five witnesses.

Philip Rivers

Philip Rivers, otherwise known as El Capitan, is starting to hit the apex of a very interesting career. While establishing himself as one of the 5 best QBs in the league, he has also managed to stay under the radar (somewhat) and managed to earn duel reputations as a classy/quiet leader (in San Diego) and a cancerous cry-baby (outside of San Diego). How the heck does that happen? He's like a mix of Peyton Manning, Dan Marino and Jim McMahon.

Broncos fans, in particular, are hilarious to listen to when discussing El Capitan's reputation. Part of this is because Denver and San Diego's fanbases might be the most intertwined of any other AFC West rivals. It's the matchup of two cities that aren't big hustle/bustle cities, both of vacation spots, and both are made up mostly of upper middle-class populations. It's not like San Diego/Oakland, where people from SD are generally terrified to just stop for gas in Oakland. And it's not like San Diego/Kansas City, where people from SD have never found a reason to visit the midwestern city except for maybe stopping for ribs on their way through.

To know how Bronco fans feel about Philip Rivers, you have to go through their history with him. It can be broken down into three eras:

Jay Cutler Era: Man, did Broncos fans hate Philip during the Jay Cutler era. Why? Well, they loved their "franchise QB" and didn't take too kindly when Rivers made him look bad and then openly mocked him on the field. Here's a blurry reminder:

Blade Runner star Sean Young and heavy-metal band frontman Vince Neil will strap on a different kind of steel when they hit the ice on ABC's inaugural edition of Skating With the Stars Nov. 22.
"I'm not a great skater, but I'm an athletic person," says Young, 50, who hopes to burnish her star appeal on the six-episode series. "It's been a fun experience (rehearsing). I'm in shape, but the ice wears you out. It's challenging, but I've enjoyed it so far."

Young and Mötley Crüe's Neil will compete against reality star Bethenny Frankel, Olympic gold-medal skier Jonny Moseley and actors Rebecca Budig (ABC soap All My Children ) and Brandon Smith (Disney Channel's Sonny With a Chance).

ABC hopes Skating With the Stars — which pairs celebs with skate professionals — will hold onto the viewers expected to tune into the season performance finale of the network's popular Dancing With the Stars.

"The ice world is a fantastic backdrop for a performance show," says Skating producer Izzie Pick. "It requires a great deal of skill and bravery."

No doubt. But TV's last ice-centric celebrity series, Fox's Skating With Celebrities , was canceled after just one season in 2006. (A popular British version, Dancing on Ice, begins its sixth season in 2011).

Neil, whose hell-raising rock-star rep dates from the 1980s, may seem an odd choice. But Neil skated competitively for two years as a youngster.

"The first day I put on skates, I didn't think I could do it. Within a half an hour, it was all coming back," says Neil, 49. "It's still tough — I'm not as limber or as graceful, but I was doing jumps after three days."

Vince Neil

Vince Neil Latest news uptodate:Vince Neil is best known as the front man for the legendary rock band Motley Crue. With the band, he has sold over 40 million albums worldwide. The band is also known as being the most destructive bands in music history, with Vince being a part in a lot of it. Vince Neil’s antics were too much on the night of December 8?Th 1984, when he and Hanoi Rocks drummer Razzle ran out of liquor during the night. Vince decided to drive them down to the liquor store, while impaired. On the drive down Vince lost control of his vehicle and hit another one. Vince was shaken up a bit, but sadly the same could not be said for Razzle. He died that night. Vince Neil was sentenced to 30 days of jail and ordered to pay a fine of 2.6 million dollars. It was a small price to pay for drunk driving resulting in someone’s death. When you’re in one of the biggest bands in the world, you get off with certain things most people wouldn’t.Vince’s life has been well documented in  Motley Crue’s The Dirt, and his own autobiography called Tattoos & Tequila, which was released early this year. You can find out everything about him including his early days in Motley, to their rise in the 80’s as one of the decade’s most popular bands. It goes through Vince’s departure in the early 90’s, to the sad passing of his daughter Skylar in 1995. Finally, they end with Motley Crue’s reunion.
If you followed Vince’s career closely, it’s not a total surprise that he’s doing something like Skating With The Stars. He has done some questionable things in the past. When he’s not tied down with the Crue it’s pretty much anyone’s guess what Vince is going to do with himself. He has done lots of little things, but his first real venture was in 2002 when he starred on the first season of The Surreal Life. It showed him in a light we all expected but just never seen. He was always trying to stir something up with the house guests, and most of the time it was when he was drinking. Still, it was very amusing and got him back in the spotlight. He followed that up with 2004’s Remaking Vince Neil, which was a program that took the viewers into seeing what it’s like when someone goes through plastic surgery. It was controversial as many television viewers found is disturbing. Since then he’s had cameo appearances on several television shows, and last year it was announced that he was going to have his own reality show on A&E.
It was announced in early November that Vince was going to be one of the celebrities on this years Skating With The Stars (ABC). He was joined by other celebrities including Sean Young (“Blade Runner”, “No Way Out”), reality star Bethenny Frankel, Olympic gold medal skier Jonny Moseley, “All My Children” actress Rebecca Budig and Brandon Mychal Smith of the Disney Channel sitcom “Sonny With a Chance”. Skating With The Stars  has the same concept as Dancing With The Stars. A celebrity is paired up with a professional dancer, or figure skater and each group performs every week. Also every week, the weakest of the group is eliminated. Vince Neil is paired up with professional figure skater Jennifer Wester, who is best known for her two first place finishes at the Midwestern sectionals.

SEA-TAC AIRPORT, Wash. – Incoming flights at Sea-Tac Airport were being delayed as much as four hours Monday due to icy runways. It comes after a cargo plane skidded off an icy Sea-Tac Airport runway Monday afternoon.
The China Airlines 747 from Taipei was bound for Sea-Tac via John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York City. It touched down at about 4:45 p.m.
According to the airport, the plane went about 100 feet past the designated landing marker. By the airport’s definition, that means it was off the runway, although it was still technically on pavement.
The plane went to the cargo hangar on its own power. Nobody was hurt.
After the incident, Sea-Tac Airport temporarily initiated a ground stop, which meant no incoming planes were allowed to land. The ground stop was lifted a few minutes later.
Now, a ground delay is in effect, meaning incoming flights are being delayed. The FAA says the delay is almost four hours.

Dancing With the Stars' won't change its voting system

CONRAD GREEN: It’s already corrected, to be honest with you. It might appear that you can make up a thousand email addresses and send them in, but we have a number of security checks in place that go over all of the internet votes before they’re calculated. In this particular case, we can spot an IP address, and if one computer sends in a crazy amount of email votes, we just discard them. These things can happen for any of our contestants. It’s not like only Bristol’s fans could do that. It could just as easily be happening for Jennifer’s or for someone else’s. But either way, those excessive votes are not being counted.
Are you saying that it might look to people like their excessive votes are getting through, but because they’re using the same IP address the votes actually wouldn’t count?
Exactly. And there’s a number of other security checks they can do. I’m not gonna reveal all of them, because it might encourage people to try to find a way around them. But there are tons of checks done by every one of our vendors — the phone people, the text people and the internet people. They do discard anything that looks suspicious. Sometimes people just can’t get through because the phone lines are busy; the local exchanges get overwhelmed. But that affects everyone equally. Unfortunately, it’s a huge country with a huge infrastructure, and those kinds of things are going to go wrong. Our servers have gone down on the internet during voting a lot. I’m very confident the votes that are getting through are valid.
Would you ever consider giving more weight to the judges’ scores in the future?
You’ve watched the show for a long time, so you’ve seen every little brouhaha we’ve had along the way. With the amount of times people have screamed blue murder about the scores of the judges have given, do you really think the complaining would stop if the judges had the final say? What it comes down to is, we add the share of the judges’ scores each night to the audience’s votes. And if you look at the spread this week between Jennifer, who got 60, and Bristol who got 53, and the other two in between, I think the share Jennifer had of the judges’ vote was like only three and a half percent more than Bristol had. I think the share that Bristol had was only one and a half percent less than Brandy’s. So all Bristol had to do was get more than one and a half percent of the popular vote than Brandy, and then she’s through. That isn’t that surprising. I’m kind of mystified about why everyone is finding this such a bizarre thing to happen.
Do you think Bristol might win?
Of course. She’s got the same chance as everyone else now. The slate has been wiped clean, every show. She’s improved every week. I think a lot of people are ignoring the fact that she’s actually a decent dancer. What I think is annoying people is that maybe she’s not as vivid a performer as some of the other dancers on the show. Kyle is quite a performer, but Bristol is probably in terms of technique a better dancer than Kyle. But she’ll never get credit for that. The thing is, when you look at her, she’s actually quite shy. Watching someone develop stage presence is actually quite fascinating to watch, and I think that’s why some people are rooting for her. You see her gradually unfolding and unfurling and all, as a performer. I can assure you that she’s really enjoying doing it. It’s not like she doesn’t want to be here. Far from it. I think she just feels uncomfortable with a lot of the things you see on our show — wearing tiny costumes, being over-the-top. She just feels slightly embarrassed doing it. She just doesn’t come from this world. I think that’s one of the things that’s absorbing about watching her.
So you think it’s just a case of America loving the underdog?

Skating with the Stars': Scores for November 22, 2010 -- The first season of ABC's new show, Skating with the Stars, premiered Monday night right after the network's popular Dancing with the Stars. Six non-professional skaters competed for scores with the judges in a format that is very similar to Dancing with the Stars. Viewers are also invited to call in or vote online.

Like Dancing with the Stars, Skating with the Stars began in England and was brought to American televisoin.

Judges for Skating with the Stars are: Olympian figure skaters Johnny Wier and Dick Button and choreographer, Laurieann Gibson.

Here are the pairs (amateurs are listed first):

Bethenny Frankel & Ethan Burgess
Brandon Mychal Smith & Keauna McLaughlin
Jonny Moseley & Brooke Castile
Rebecca Budig & Fred Palascak
Sean Young & Denis Petukhov
Vince Neil & Jennifer Wester

Skating with the Stars gives two scores -- one for technical merit and one for artistic impression.  The routine lasts 1 minute and a half and is performed live.

Here are the scores for the first night, both for technical merit and artistic impression. Judges' scores are listed in this order: Laurieann Gibson; Johnny Wier; Dick Button:

Bethenny Frankel & Ethan Burgess -- Technical: 5, 5, 5 = 15/30; Artistic: 5, 4, 5 = 14/30; Total = 29/60.

Brandon Mychal Smith & Keauna McLaughlin -- Technical: 6, 5, 5 = 16/30; Artistic: 7, 7, 6 = 20/30; Total = 36/60.

Jonny Moseley & Brooke Castile -- Technical: 7, 7, 7 = 21/30; Artistic: 6, 6, 7 = 19/30; Total = 40/60.

Rebecca Budig & Fred Palascak -- Technical: 7, 7, 7 = 21/30; Artistic: 8, 8, 8 = 24/30; Total = 45/60.

Sean Young & Denis Petukhov -- Technical: 6, 5, 5 = 16/30; Artistic: 7, 5, 6 = 18/30; Total = 34/60.

Vince Neil & Jennifer Wester -- Technical: 6, 4, 4 = 14/30; Artistic: 6, 4, 4 = 14/30; Total = 28/60.

That makes the highest scoring pair of the evening Rebecca Budig & Fred Palascak with 45/60 and the lowest scoring pair Vince Neil & Jennifer Wester with 28/60.

As part of the program the first night, judge and Olympian figure skater, Johnny Wier performed on the ice to Lady Gaga's "Poker Face."

Skating with the Stars airs for 6 weeks

The New Victory Theater’s latest production works hard to recreate the era of top-hatted gents and flapper girls, but it made me think of the 1960s, and not just because the villain quotes Timothy Leary. The actors playing the heroes can outjuggle, outdance and outbalance any of the energetic acts that used to drive “The Ed Sullivan Show” in its heyday. If Sullivan were still on the air, these guys would probably have a permanent home.

Right now they inhabit Times Square, where their troupe, the Handsome Little Devils, is presenting “Squirm Burpee Circus: A Vaudevillian Melodrama.” Striving for the style of old-time entertainments in which mustache-twirling evil men tied damsels to railroad tracks, the show, directed by Armitage Shanks, unfolds at a circus featuring the brothers Mike the Handsome (Michael Huling) and Dashing Dave (Dave Clay). They don’t realize that their new assistant, the Lovely Little Lolo (Cole Schneider), is really the girl who once abandoned Mike at the altar (actually the swing set).

The story’s narrator and the brothers’ nemesis, the Baron Vegan von Hamburger (Jason Knauf, above), also traces his torment to playground days. Enlisting the audience’s help — children can do their best crazed “Wah-ha-ha-ha-ha,” and one young theatergoer even gets to go onstage as, yes, Hamburger Helper — he invents ways to annihilate the circus. While he plots, the brothers keep a lot of balls, not to mention clubs, plates and hats, in the air.

In one scene Dashing Dave plucks a woman from the audience to help him with Dave’s Ladder of Love. (It only sounds pornographic.) Arms extended, she holds a ladder before her while Dave, his back to her, climbs it. Inevitably he reaches a point where his posterior is directly above her nose. Be warned: this is the height to which the show’s humor usually rises. Children may find that level hilarious, but anyone over 12 will be far more impressed with the feats than with the flatulence jokes.

The Baron doesn’t execute any tricks, but makes up for it with wild-eyed enthusiasms and steampunk stratagems. He may not destroy the circus, but he comes close to stealing the show.

home against his former team the Packers. Aaron Rodgers played pitch and catch with Gregg Jennings (3TDs) and James Jones (1TD) as the Packs’ ‘D’ held Adrian Peterson out of the end zone and to only 78 yards on the ground. Even the return of Sidney Rice couldn’t make Favre a winner (17-of-38, 1INT).  Rice caught three balls for 56 yards and he was the top receiver on the day for the Vikes.  Minny falls to 3-7 and the Tavaris Jackson watch is on.
New England Patriots 31  Indianapolis Colts 28: Peyton Manning threw an INT on the Colts first drive and played catch up all day. Driving to tie or win, Manning threw his final pass for another INT and the game was over. He had the better day as he threw for four TDs on 38-of-52 passing, but without more than a whiff of a run game, Indy was doomed. Brady only had to throw two TDs because his backfield of the “Law Firm” and Danny Woodhead each found the end zone.  Pats keep pace with the Jets at 8-2 and Indy falls to 6-4.
New York Jets 30  Houston Texans  27 : Mark Sanchez to Santonio Holmes for the game winner looks like it might become a habit. A week after a winning TD pass and catch in OT, the duo hooked up with seconds on the clock. The Jets blew a 16 point lead in the 4th. They came back to down Houston, who looked like they would send the Jets to 2-3 record at home. Sanchez threw two scores to Holmes and one to Braylon Edwards. Matt Schaub was a bit gimpy and it showed. He ended up with only one TD on 19-of-33 passing.
Washington Redskins  19 Tennessee Titans 16 in OT: The teams swapped TDs in the first Q and then combined for seven field goals between them, the last a game winner for Washington. The Titans lone touchdown was thrown by 3rd stringer Rusty Smith who came in after Vince Young tore a thumb tendon. Donovan McNabb had a 30-of-50 day for 376 total yards and one INT, with the offense stalling in the red zone throughout the game. Chris Johnson ran for 130 yards and for the Redskins, Keiland Williams and Clinton Portis racked up 100 yards rushing combined.
Jacksonville Jaguars  24 Cleveland Browns  20: Break up the Jags!  They are tied with the Colts for 1st place in their division after the close win over the Browns. Aren’t all Cleveland games close and no cigar? Seems so.  MJD had another monster game with a TD and 133 yards on the ground plus 87 yards receiving. Good thing since David Garrard threw three picks with two TDs. Browns’ Peyton Hillis had more than 140 all purpose yards and one TD.
Buffalo Bills  49 Cincinnati Bengals 31 : The Bengals have lost seven in a row and with their talent, that just shouldn’t be. It’s time to wonder if Carson Palmer needs a new home after being outplayed by Ryan Fitzpatrick. The Bills are known for their come backs this season, most of which end in defeat.  Not this time as they scored 28 unanswered points in the second half and their D held Cincy scoreless.  Bills double their win total as Fitzy threw for four scores on 21-34 and 316 yards. Palmer found the two divas, T.O. and Ochocino for a score each but threw two picks and finished with only 230 yards passing.
Tampa Bay Bucs 21 San Francisco 49ers 0: The 49ers lost at home in an awful way. I’m sure Mike Singletary is ready to fall on his sword after the team dropped to 3-7 in front of the home fans. Troy Smith fell back down to earth after last week’s win on 16-of-31 passing for 148 yards and one INT. Josh Freeman  threw for two scores and Cadillac Williams found pay dirt once, for the second week in a row. The Bucs look for real at 7-3.
Kansas City Chiefs 31 Arizona Cardinals 13: The Chiefs’ scored two by air and two on the ground as the Cards struggled to score from the red zone all day. You couldn’t tell from Derek Anderson’s numbers, 1 TD to Larry Fitzgerald on 25-of-46 passing for 295 yards through the air. The Cards RBs even topped the 100 yard mark between them Hightower and Wells. The Chiefs got two scores from Thomas Jones and Matt Cassel added two to Dwayne Bowe.

Jfk Assassination

Leonardo DiCaprio is keeping very busy these days.

Warner Bros. and DiCaprio’s production company Appian Way have optioned a John F. Kennedy assassination movie based on a non-fiction book called, “Legacy of Secrecy,” written by Lamar Waldron and Thom Hartmann.

A press release indicated DiCaprio will star in the film with a release date of 2013 in time for the 50th anniversary of JFK’s assassination.

DiCaprio will play the FBI informant Jack Van Laningham, who obtained the confession of Mafia godfather Carlos Marcello to having ordered JFK’s assassination. In this real life story undercover operation, it remained a secret for decades until the publication of the non-fiction book in 2009.

According to Deadline, another press release by DiCaprio’s public relations firm stated that “an acclaimed director who has previously worked with Leonardo has expressed interest in directing the film.”

Gig Patta’s Take: This is exciting. Another acclaimed director will direct this movie with Leonardo DiCaprio. Who could it be—Martin Scorsese, Clint Eastwood, Sam Mendes or even Christopher Nolan? I think it is probably going to be Scorsese. And it’s probably safe to rule out Kristine Peterson (Critters 3) from directing this film. Let the guessing game begin.

Dogfish Head

The Pilgrims would have a offered a collective prayer to the heavens if they landed in Plymouth on September 11th in this year of our lord 2010. Although this festive day of Dogfish Head is in no way related to the fact that the Pilgrims ran out of beer on their voyage and needed a place to start brewing (and pronto) – it does make for a good backdrop.
The British Beer Company (BBC), with their dedication to a diverse craft and imported beer selection at all nine of their Massachusetts locations is a most appropriate host for such a celebration of beer. In 1997 the BBC opened this first location in Plymouth with the intent of delivering a British pub experience to Americans. It immediately became the spot for locals to meet with friends and family to refresh and connect in an unhurried and welcoming atmosphere.

Dogfish Head (DFH) based in Delaware started as a small brew pub in Rehoboth Beach; brewing small 12 gallon batches of beer for their patrons. Their experimentation with unique ingredients and the resulting extreme high ABV (alcohol by volume) styles quickly separated Dogfish Head from the rest of the small but growing craft beer industry. By 2009 Dogfish Head was the 16th largest craft brewer in the country (beer sales volume). Founder Sam Calagione has become somewhat of a spokesperson for the craft beer industry scribing a book entitled “Brewing up a Business” and premiering a new show on the Discovery Channel this fall called “Brewed”.
What can people expect at Dogfish Fest – 12 tap lines dedicated to Dogfish Head beer! Here’s a sampling of what’s going to be available: World Wide Stout, Sah’Tea, Saison du Buff, Burton Baton, Theobroma, Immort Ale, Raison d’Etre, Palo Santo Maron and Punkin. Favorites such as 60 and 90 Minute IPA will also be poured, and a very rare and special batch of “Bitches Brew” will disappear in minutes. Also joining us will be Dogfish Head’s Randall the Enamel Animal – an organoleptic hop transducer module. You have to see and taste it to, well, believe it.

Laurie Bembenek

Laurie " Bambie" Bembenek died today of complications of numerous health problems last night in Portland, OR., at the age of 52.
From jsonline:Bembenek, 52, who later changed her first name to Laurie, had been admitted to a hospital in recent days and then was transferred to a hospice, her sister said. Her health problems included hepatitis C and liver and kidney failure, Colette Bembenek said.
"It went real fast. I'm glad she didn't linger," Colette Bembenek said. "I knew it was inevitable that she probably would be expiring early in life."
Laurie Bembenek was the former Milwaukee police officer charged with killing her then-husband's ex-wife, Christine Schultz. She was convicted in 1982 and sentenced to life in prison, but that was far, far from the end of the story.
In 1990, with the help of fiancé Dominic Gugliatto, the brother of another inmate, she escaped from Taycheedah Correctional Institution. They were captured three months later in Thunder Bay, Ontario. More legal proceedings resulted in her pleading guilty to second-degree murder and being released on parole for time served.
http://www.jsonline.com/news/wisconsin/109696054.html

I remember when all of this was going on because I was living in Wisconsin at the time. Initially, the murder didn't gain a lot attention. However, once Ira Robins, private investigator on the case, the publicity of the case grew tremendously.
Bembenek was convicted on circumstantial evidence and tried to appeal her conviction on circumstantial evidence. She lost a lot of creditability when she escaped from prison and was found being a waitress up in Canada.
The courts granted her an appeal and she plea bargained to a 2nd degree murder conviction and got time served. at the time, most people were tired of her and were glad her 15 minutes of fame were up.
I myself, thought she was innocent with the possibility of murdered victim's husband did the killing or at least he hired someone to do to the killing and framed Bembenek.

Larry Forgione

For the finale, the chairman beckoned everyone to Kitchen Stadium for a battle based on the theme of "honor." Joining judges Michael Symon, Donatella Arpaia and Simon Majumdar were iron chefs Bobby Flay and Masaharu Morimoto for a 5-person panel to decide who will be the Next Iron Chef.

How they got here: Marco Canora and Marc Forgione took different paths throughout the competition. Canora cooked consistently and won 5 of the last 9 challenges while Forgione's cooking had more peaks and valleys (albeit with some really high peaks). Canora is more experienced. Forgione is one of the most creative on the show.

The challenge: In 60 minutes, with the aid of 2 sous chefs, prepare 5 dishes based on the idea of an ultimate thanksgiving. The chefs have heritage turkey, duck, lobster and racks of venison at their disposal.

LINCOLN — Nebraska freshman quarterback Taylor Martinez returned to the field Saturday night, and it wasn’t a moment too soon for either Martinez or head coach Bo Pelini.

Martinez had 11 carries for 71 yards and completed 14-of-26 passes for 167 yards in Nebraska’s 20-3 win over Kansas.

“I thought it was big,” Pelini said Tuesday at his weekly press conference. “You didn’t want him to be sitting for two weeks. We were a little guarded with Taylor early in the game, and I think Taylor was a little bit guarded. He wasn’t sure where he was going to be, and I thought as the game went on he grew more confident, which was a big key. We didn’t want to sit him for two weeks.”

Martinez said playing against the Jayhawks was big for him and the Huskers (8-1, 5-1 in the Big 12) heading into Saturday’s game at Texas A&M (7-3, 4-2).

“It was very important for me to get back out there,” Martinez said after the game Saturday, “just to know that it’s my team and no one else’s team, and for me to start establishing a rhythm once we go into Texas A&M and Colorado.”

When asked if he liked Martinez calling the Huskers “my team,” Pelini said he wasn’t sure what the quarterback meant by that.

“I didn’t hear the comment, but that’s the type of attitude every guy should have,” Pelini said. “You hope that’s the attitude across the board on your football team.”

Martinez missed most of six quarters of play after being injured in the second quarter against Missouri on Oct. 30. He then sat out against Iowa State on Nov. 6, a game the Huskers ended up winning 31-30 in overtime.

Pelini said Martinez needed all the work he could get Saturday night against Kansas.

“I thought it was important for him to get reps. That’s one of the reasons he was in at the end of the football game was to continue to get him some more reps. He hasn’t played a ton of football. This is only his first year, so you miss a week you’re going to be a little rusty. I think that was part of the deal.”

The Huskers used the wildcat formation with Rex Burkhead behind center sparingly against Kansas after using it fairly extensively against Iowa State.

“It’s just another piece of the puzzle, another thing people have to prepare for,” Pelini said of the wildcat. “I think Rex does it well. I don’t think we executed it as well in the last game as we have, but it’s all part of the puzzle.”

Another piece of the Nebraska recruiting puzzle has been getting players from Texas to come to Lincoln. Saturday’s game at College Station will be NU’s last regular season trip to Texas before they join the Big Ten Conference next season.

Although the Huskers already have several commitments from Texas recruits for next year, there has been speculation that the change of conferences might make it harder for Pelini and his coaches to recruit in the Lone Star state.

Pelini said he’s not sure if that will be a problem.

“Time will tell on that, but we’ve had good reception down in Texas,” Pelini said. “You hope to continue the relationships that you’ve had. You have to ask me that a couple of years down the road here, because I think there are a lot of unknowns as to how the move will affect you in a number of ways.”

On if the opportunity to play in Texas was something they told recruits they were pursuing from the state

“Somewhat, but most of the time families now travel. It’s not that hard to get to Lincoln and to come to games here. Bottom line, you see Big Ten teams recruiting well in the state of Texas. It’s not like we would be down there alone. There is a lot of talent down there, a lot of people, so there’s more to choose from obviously when you’re talking about a population base like you’re dealing with in Texas”

For those who had similar difficulty staying awake, here’s video highlights of BJ Penn vs Matt Hughes 3, from the opening introduction to the postfight interview with Penn after defeating Hughes.

Of course it really wasn’t much of a fight, was it? Penn (16-7-1) ended a two-match losing streak by knocking Hall of Famer Hughes down in just 21 seconds. Penn will likely face Jon Fitch in his next fight. What do you think, can Penn win again?

Eat Sweet Potato Casserole With Marshmallows. We have T-day cooking course, Fashionista made this sweet potato casserole, is very close to the sweet potato casserole that Ruth Criss Steakhouse serves and so very delicious. I know a lot of people like the sweet potatoes that tastes sweet, with gobs of marshmallows, swimming in orange juice and topped with streusel over the whole of Germany! I prefer to eat dessert after dinner, so I stayed away from their food very sweet and when this recipe is sweet, It's Not Over-the-top cavity-inducing sweet.
Sweet Potato Casserole - Adapted by Megan Gee, aka The Fashionista, From Ruth's Criss Steakhouse

For the potatoes:

3 cups sweet potatoes, about 3 large yams, peeled and diced (cut all as close to the same size as possible so they will cook evenly)

1/3 cup sugar

2 eggs, beaten

1 teaspoon vanilla

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 stick butter, melted

Topping:

1 cup brown sugar

1 cup chopped pecans

1/3 cup flour

1/3 cup melted butter

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.  Mix all the topping ingredients together and set aside.  Put peeled and diced sweet potatoes in a pan and cover with water.  Bring to a boil over medium-high heat and cook until fork tender.  Remove from heat and drain.  Put cooked sweet potatoes through a ricer or hand mash (make sure you have about 3 cups mashed potatoes).  Add the remaining ingredients to the mashed sweet potatoes and thoroughly mix together.  Place in a buttered baking dish and sprinkle the topping over it.  Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes.  Let rest for 20 minutes before serving.  Serves 6.

Here are some of my favorite things about Oprah's Ultimate 2010
1, The Book of weight loss - losing run Wight by The New York Times best-selling author Marianne Williamson. The cost is $ 24.95. Comment: an alternative approach to weight loss, a diet of plants for sustainable weight loss. Three things you should know. First you need to eat enough good appetite, secondly, you should not eat more than necessary and, thirdly, to eat a nutritionally balanced diet. Balance diet rich in plants that are found in grain products and vegetables, according to Dr. T. Colin Campbell, professor of nutrition at Cornell University.
2, Andre Walker, hair care products. One of my favorite things about Oprah 2010 is a gift set including keratin shampoo, conditioner keratin, improving shine Q-in-oil and covered with makeup hair. It will cost you $ 65.
Comment: Readers should check and see if there are unfriendly ingredients like titanium oxide, chemical whose name ends with ETH, artificial colors, etc. Those who do not use animal products must keratin that seems more than likely the animal is.
3, Baker Edge baking pans and Ghirardelli Brownie Mix, including Baker's Edge Brownie Pan, which costs $ 35.95, Ghirardelli Double Chocolate Brownie Mix, which costs $ 4.50, Lasagna Pan Baker's Edge, which costs $ 49.95 . Consumer food commentary should check and see if the yeast is used in products. Many baking mixes contain an unpleasant type of salt. Baking powder can contain aluminum salt, which is associated with an increased risk of dementia. It is said that the baking powder on the other side does not contain aluminum salts. Other sources of aluminum salt is salt and dyes used in processed foods.
4, Beecher’s “World’s Best” Mac ‘N’ Cheese. It would cost you $29.00.
Comment: cheese tastes great and after you eat, your digestion system of certain peptides in food addiction, which makes you feel good. But do not overeat. Cheese contains high fat. Milk is one food that can have serious environmental pollution.
